Loch Morlich: A Hidden Gem in the Cairngorms
After our enchanting reindeer tour, we stopped for lunch and stumbled upon an absolutely stunning spot in the Cairngorms National Park: Loch Morlich. In Scotland, “Loch” refers to a lake or a sea inlet, so you could think of it as Morlich Lake.

We set up a quick picnic by the tranquil, sparkling waters, and the view took our breath away. Directly opposite, majestic mountains rose like a painting—so picturesque that for a moment, it felt like we were in a Canadian national park rather than the Scottish Highlands. It was truly a cinematic, soul-refreshing experience.
Unexpected Beach Paradise

What really surprised us was the sandy shoreline—Loch Morlich Beach! Even though it’s not the sea, the beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Walking trails are well-maintained, making it ideal for families, couples, or solo visitors. Had we known about this gem in advance, we might have rearranged our itinerary to spend more time here.

Scenic Highlights

The mountains still had patches of snow, creating a dramatic backdrop. Small stepping stones by the water allowed the kids to explore immediately after lunch.
