Hapimag Edinburgh: Our Family Stay in a Charming West End Boutique Hotel

During our recent trip to Edinburgh, we stayed at the Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh, a 4-star boutique hotel nestled in the city’s tranquil West End. The hotel is housed in a converted townhouse, offering a charming mix of historic character and modern comforts. Its location is perfect—close to Edinburgh’s main attractions while tucked away in a peaceful residential area.
To be honest, we booked quite late—only two weeks before our trip. Easter weekend plus a weekend meant accommodation prices were generally high. However, the Hapimag stood out for its reasonable pricing, and after staying there, I can honestly say it exceeded all expectations.

Honesty Shop

One unique feature is the Honesty Shop, reminiscent of self-service convenience stores. You simply note the items you take along with your room number on the provided sheet, and settle the bill at checkout. It’s perfect for grabbing a quick snack without leaving the hotel, and it fits perfectly with the hotel’s calm and trustworthy atmosphere.
Common Areas

The hotel has several shared spaces, including:
- A lounge, ideal for relaxing when guests are out exploring.
- A small children’s play area, cosy but sufficient for young kids.
- An entertainment room with table football and pool—a great option for evening downtime if you have some extra time.
While we didn’t use these spaces due to our tight itinerary, I imagine families would enjoy them immensely.
Our Townhouse Suite

The Townhouse Suite we stayed in was truly impressive. Upon entering, the living area is to the left, and the bedrooms are to the right. The living space is exceptionally spacious, perfect for a family to gather after a busy day exploring Edinburgh. Comfortable sofas and an additional bathroom made it convenient for everyone.

At first, I was puzzled by the huge wardrobe, thinking our kids would have separate beds elsewhere. To my surprise, it was a fold-out bed hidden inside—an ingenious use of space! Pillows and bedding were neatly stored in a nearby cabinet, and the children were thrilled by the novelty.
Kitchen & Dining

The suite includes a well-equipped kitchenette with a microwave, kettle, coffee, biscuits, and even a cheese board with knife—ideal for preparing light meals or snacks. There’s also a large table, making breakfasts together very comfortable.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms

- Master Bedroom: Comfortable bed with a bright, airy feel.
- Bathroom: Includes both shower and a large bathtub—perfect for kids who love long baths like Leo.
During our Easter stay, we were delighted to find a chocolate surprise and a cute card waiting for us in the morning, which was a thoughtful touch from the hotel staff.
Parking & Sustainability
The hotel offers private parking behind the building (£15/day). Initially, we parked on the street, but staff kindly directed us to the rear parking area, which was quick and convenient.
While there isn’t a dedicated breakfast service, you can submit an order for pastries to be delivered to your room. We opted to buy croissants from a nearby Sainsbury’s instead—it was cheaper and just as convenient.
I also appreciated the hotel’s sustainable practices, including recycling and environmentally conscious operations.
Pricing & Recommendation
We stayed in the Townhouse Suite for 2 nights at £250 per night, booking through Expedia. Considering the spacious suite, family-friendly amenities, and prime location in Edinburgh’s West End, this was excellent value.
The staff were friendly, the suites spotless, and the hotel’s atmosphere was peaceful—perfect for families.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly, centrally located, boutique hotel in Edinburgh that balances charm, convenience, and comfort, I highly recommend Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh.
